Parish Mission Leadership
Gary Haugen: God's Passion for the World
A series of training events are offered in the Diocese to equip individuals, both Clergy and Laypersons, to be certified as “Parish Mission Leaders”. This program provides participants with the skills and experience necessary to establish and/or strengthen the Local Outreach and Global Mission programs of their local church or organization, no matter its size.
Requirements for participation in the program include:
1) A desire to help your church or organization become fully engaged in the Great Commission.
2) Parish leadership experience and endorsement from parish clergy.
3) A commitment to invest several weeks over the course of a year for training as well as participation in a Short-Term Mission trip.
The Program includes four components:
• Introduction to Mission
• Short-Term Mission Leaders Training
• Participation in a short-term mission trip.
• Parish Mission Mobilizers Seminar
(Each of the above program components may require additional reading and/or reporting assignments for full completion of the Certification Process.)
As Jesus prepared his disciples by both instruction and experience, this PML (Parish Mission Leaders) program will include both teaching and experience.
The Introduction to Mission is the first step for anyone wanting to go on mission. It will lay the biblical, cultural and strategic foundations of mission and provide opportunity for participants to explore how God is calling them to participate.
The Short-Term Mission Leaders’ Training will give participants ‘hands-on’ preparation for training and leading a team to go into a new cultural setting.
The Short-Term Missions Trip will allow participants to apply what they have learned and to experience God in another culture.
The Parish Mission Mobilizers Seminar will prepare participants to assess the current strengths of an existing outreach and mission program and learn how to build a strong, growing, and long-lasting mission awareness and participation program that can strengthen the life of a parish in every area of growth and ministry.
